Plastination is a technique patented in 1982 by Dr. Gunther von Hagens. Using this technique, water and fat are replaced by certain plastics yielding specimens which do not decay. Dr. von Hagens uses only donated bodies for plastination. Body Worlds is the first anatomical exhibition of preserved human bodies which has been made available to the public. Since the first exhibition in Japan in 1995, over 25 million visitors in 40 countries have seen what is considered the world's most successful travelling exhibition. The focus of the exhibition is to educate the public about anatomy and the human body, its functions, diseases and physical changes
